The potential benefits of vitamin D
A group of researchers studying the potential benefits of vitamin D said that men with low levels of this vitamin are at increased risk of suffering a heart attack.
Within this study, men presented as deficient in vitamin D have a tendency 2.5 times more likely to suffer a heart attack that men who have higher levels of vitamin.
The author of the study, Dr. Edward Giovannucci of Harvard School of Public Health, said that people with low vitamin D not only have a greater risk of a heart attack but also have more risk that this attack is fatal.
The study involved 454 men between ages 40 and 75 years who suffered heart attacks not fatal or died of heart disease, like other 900 men with no history of diseases; who had to spend tests blood by 10 years for measuring their levels of vitamin D.
The researchers compared to those who were deficient in vitamin D (no more than 15 nanograms per milliliter of blood) with men who were in the normal range (at least 30 nanograms per milliliter of blood).

The vitamin D deficiency
A group of endocrinologists in Sydney have noted that very ill patients tend to have very low levels of vitamin D, according to the results of the Australian study published in New England Journal of Medicine.
“Until now, the medical community had thought the vitamin D deficiency as a chronic condition,” said Dr. Lee. “Little is known about their acute complications”.
“Last year, we have published several cases that show that the vitamin D deficiency can cause serious complications in the intensive care unit”.
“Recently, the vitamin D has been recognized by their numerous functions beyond the system muscular-skeletal, since it has been involved with diabetes, the immune system, cancers, heart disease and the metabolic syndrome”.
